The RightFit™ Audiometry

The smartphone hearing test that replaces the waiting room.

Three minutes. Headphones on. A quiet room. RightFit™ turns your iPhone or Android into a clinical-grade audiometer — then loads your personal profile onto a RightEar device before it ships. No copay, no booth, no awkward small talk about your daughter's wedding.

  • FDA-cleared Class II
  • 60-day home trial
  • Validated to ±3 dB vs. clinic

Clinical validation

Validated against in-clinic audiograms — here's the margin.

We didn't set out to build a marketing tool. We set out to build a hearing test that an audiologist would trust. The numbers below are from 1,200+ dual fittings where RightFit™ and a clinic-grade audiogram were run on the same ear, same day, same patient.

How the test works

Three minutes. Four steps. One clinical-grade profile.

No appointments. No referrals. No referral-request forms. If you can put on earbuds and find a quiet corner of the kitchen, you have everything you need.

  1. 01

    Pair & seal

Download the RightEar app, pair your AirPods or any Bluetooth earbuds, and run a 20-second ear-tip seal check. The seal is the single biggest predictor of an accurate threshold — and the one most at-home tests skip.

    ≈ 30 seconds

  2. 02

    Threshold sweep

A Hughson–Westlake–style adaptive procedure plays calibrated tones at nine frequencies across both ears. You tap once when a tone is audible — the same protocol used in booths, calibrated for smartphone drivers.

    ≈ 90 seconds

  3. 03

    Speech-in-noise

A short QuickSIN-style passage measures how you parse conversation against background noise — the single largest complaint of first-time hearing-aid buyers ("I can hear them, I just can't understand them").

    ≈ 45 seconds

  4. 04

    Profile & recommend

Your audiogram and speech-in-noise score become a RightFit™ profile. We pair it with our 12-question lifestyle intake (music, restaurants, phone calls, streaming) and surface three matched devices — with a real audiologist's note attached.

    ≈ 30 seconds

What arrives afterward

After the test, the relationship begins.

Most "hearing tests" stop at a printout. RightFit™ is the start of a service — one that keeps working for as long as your hearing does. Three things come with every RightEar device.

I.

Your RightFit™ profile, pre-loaded

Your audiogram, your speech-in-noise curve, and the gain targets our audiologists chose for your prescription class ship on the device before it leaves the warehouse. Open the box, put it in, it already knows your ear.

  • 9-frequency threshold per ear
  • Speech-in-noise reference score
  • Personalized gain prescription
  • Lifestyle-tuned default programs

II.

Lifetime remote tuning by in-house audiologists

Nine licensed audiologists on staff — not a third-party call center. Send a 60-second voice note from the app, get a retuned profile back, usually the same day. 91% of customers describe it as "better than their previous audiologist experience."

  • As many tuning sessions as you need
  • Average response: under 4 business hours
  • No appointment, no copay, no travel
  • Documented in your clinical record

III.

A 60-day home trial, and a year of protection

Wear them in the rooms you actually live in — your kitchen, your car, your favorite restaurant. If they're not right, we pay return shipping and refund the full purchase. First-year loss-and-damage replacement is on us, no fine print.

  • 60 days, in your real life
  • Free return shipping
  • 1-year loss & damage replacement
  • Optional free device recycling

For audiologists & ENT clinics

A direct-to-consumer partner built on clinical transparency — not a competitor.

We know what your chart looks like. RightEar exists for the 78% of first-time buyers who never make it to your waiting room. We'd rather send you the patients we can't serve than compete for the ones you can.

"How accurate is a smartphone audiometry, really?"

RightFit™ has been validated against in-clinic audiograms across 1,200+ dual fittings. Mean threshold deviation is ±3 dB across the standard 250 Hz – 8 kHz range — comparable to two back-to-back clinical measurements on the same patient. We publish the methodology, the seeding procedure, and our re-test protocol; audiologists and ENT clinics can request the white paper below.

"What happens when RightFit™ detects something outside the OTC range?"

RightEar screens for asymmetric loss, sudden-onset loss, and conductive indicators during the intake. When a profile falls outside our FDA-cleared indications — typically moderate-to-severe or worse, or any unilateral finding > 15 dB across two adjacent frequencies — we pause the DTC path, send the user their full report, and recommend a clinical evaluation with a partner provider. We'd rather lose a sale than sell the wrong device.

"Can my clinic see what RightFit™ measured?"

Yes. With the customer's consent, we share the full RightFit™ report — threshold per ear per frequency, speech-in-noise score, retest consistency — as a structured PDF your EMR can ingest. 200+ partner clinics currently accept RightFit™ referrals, including a pediatric-adjacent network under NBASLH partnership.
